The trend for late-arriving and shorter winters is set to continue this year, according to weather forecasters. It’s a trend that has been taking place for several years now and if you have hopes for a snow-filled winter vacation, here’s what you need to know.

The first major freeze of the year has been arriving later and later each year. The snow thaw as well has been arriving earlier too, according to data collected by the NOAA Climate Prediction Center. The NOAA predicts that two thirds of the US will see warmer-than-average temperatures this winter, including Hawaii and Alaska.

What does this mean for travelers? Well, if you plan to book flights to Honolulu for a sunny winter-break, you can count on warmer temperatures than you’d normally expect. For a snow-filled vacation, you should be flexible with your travel dates. Booking trips to one of the best ski resorts in the US as and when conditions are prime. Aiming for snowy breaks in January and February, mid-winter, will be your best bet for snow.
