If any of the endangered UNESCO World Heritage Sites are on your bucket list, it may be time to book that all important flight ticket and visit your dream destination a.s.a.p. – whilst it is still there.
A few of the attractions that are under threat are: Peru’s Machu Picchu, the towns of Omari, Japan and Lijiang, China; and Mount Saint Michel in France.
Environmental wear and human exposure (from the large number of tourists) has prompted the change in status.
Although these sights have yet to make the official endangered list, 48 destinations already have, including, the rainforests of the Atsinanana in Madagascar and Timbuktu Everglades National Park.
