Airline safety and product rating review website, AirlineRatings.com, has revealed its round up of the world’s safest – and least safe – airlines.  

When traveling, safety is something we’re all concerned by. Airline safety and product rating website, AirlineRatings.com, has now revealed its fourth annual comprehensive list of the safest airlines in the world.

Listing the twenty safest airlines and ten safest low-cost airlines, the rating is compiled from 425 airlines from across the globe.

For the fourth year running, Qantas tops the list. The remainder of the top 20 is made up of the following airlines, listed in alphabetical order:

  • Air New Zealand
  • Alaska Airlines
  • All Nippon Airways
  • British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific Airways
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Etihad Airways
  • EVA Air
  • Finnair
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • Japan Airlines
  • KLM
  • Lufthansa
  • Scandinavian Airline System
  • Singapore Airlines
  • Swiss
  • United Airlines
  • Virgin Atlantic
  • Virgin Australia

In creating the ranking, a number of factors are taken into acount such as government audits, fleet age and airline’s crash and serious incident records. Fleet history and an airline’s track record of initiating new safety technology were also taken into consideration by the AirlineRatings.com team in compiling the top 20.

Looking at low cost airlines, the top ten safest in alphabetical order were revealed to be:

  • Aer Lingus
  • Flybe
  • HK Express
  • Jetblue
  • Jetstar Australia
  • Jetstar Asia
  • Thomas Cook
  • Virgin America
  • Vueling
  • Westjet
