The busiest airports in Europe have been revealed, with Londond’s Heathrow Airport taking the top spot!
Thanks to an annual study conducted by the Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe), Europe’s busiest airports have been revealed. The study takes into account a number of factors, including traffic and passenger growth.
Not for the first time, London Heathrow Airport was named the busiest airport in Europe, welcoming over 75.7 million passengers in 2016. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport came in second, with 65.9 million travelers passing through the airport.
The 5 busiest airports in Europe are:
1. London Heathrow – 75.7 million
2. Paris Charles de Gaulle – 65.9 million
3. Amsterdam – 63.6 million
4. Frankfurt – 60.8 million
5. Istanbul – 60 million
A number of countries also saw significantly higher numbers of passengers, with Iceland – perhaps unspurprisingly, given its huge burst in popularity over the last few years – topping the list. The Land of Fire and Ice saw a 40% growth in passenger numbers, with low cost airlines such as WOW air and Icelandair offering an increasing number of super cheap flights from the U.S.
