2016 was a bumper year for air transport in the U.S., with national airlines carrying more passengers than ever.

According to figures released by the Department of Transportation, 2016 saw U.S. airlines transport 823 million passengers in total, with 719 million traveling within the U.S. itself, and a further 103.9 million passengers traveling internationaly. The figures mean that 2016 was the busiest year on record for air travel on U.S. based airlines, with 798 million passengers in 2015.

Domestic travel on U.S. airlines was up 3.3% on 2015 while international travel saw a 1.7% increase. 2015 itself was a record year, and the increase in passenger numbers suggest that the trend may well continue!

With air travel increasingly affordable, as low cost airlines compete with regular carriers to win travelers over, sometimes taking a flight is the best way to get from A to B on all fronts.
