Keeping loved ones updated when traveling generally entails regular emails and the occasional long distance phone call. But Brussels based Jonathan Quiñonez found a unique and hilarious way to let his mom know he is, in fact, fine when traveling the world.

Heading off to South America earlier this year, the 27 year old faced the challenge of sporadic internet and international call costs when keeping his mom in the loop regarding his wellbeing. The solution? An Instagram account detailing his adventures and reassuring his mom back home that he’s, well, fine.

From scuba diving to running into the Colombian army, Quiñonez manages to get his message of ‘mom, I’m fine’ into each image he posts and has amassed a following of almost 95,000 since setting up his account 2 months ago. Writing in his profile, he explains that “Whatever your age is, if you have a latin mom and a passion for adventure, you will have to find a way to tell her that you are fine. This is my way”.

What do you think of Quiñonez’s idea? How do you keep loved ones updated when abroad?
