TripAdvisor recently published a list of the “World’s Most Beloved Landmarks” but we have to say that it’s a curious collection. There’s no Statue of Liberty, Sydney Opera House or Eiffel Tower on the list. So which landmarks made it to the top?

In a recent press release, TripAdvisor explained that its “most beloved” landmarks were chosen using an algorithm that took into account the quality and quality of reviews and ratings for landmarks around the world and gathered this data over a 12-month period.

Which ones came out on top? See how your list of favorite landmarks compares to these collected from the TripAdvisor community!

The World’s most beloved landmarks

  1. Machu Picchu (Peru)
  2. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center (UAE)
  3. Angkor Wat (Cambodia)
  4. St. Peter’s Basilica (Italy)
  5. Taj Mahal (India)
  6. Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba (Spain)
  7. Church of the Saviour on Spilt Blood (Russia)
  8. The Alhambra (Spain)
  9. Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool (USA)
  10. Milan Cathedral (Italy)

There are some biggies on the list here, but also some more unusual choices, like the Cathedral in Cordoba and the Alhambra in Granada, both in the south of Spain. If you haven’t visited these, there’s no reason not to book flights to Granada to discover these beauties!
