On Friday the winner of the Leading Culture awards 2015 was announced in London. New York’s Museum of Modern Art took the top place with many of the usual suspects not far behind.
The Center Pompidou in Paris and London’s Tate Modern made the cut, but some of the familiar museum heavy weights didn’t.
Even though France’s Louvre is the world’s most visited art museum, it didn’t get a mention at the awards. Florence’s Galleria degli Uffizi and Madrid’s Reina Sofia were too ignored.
Some new guns made an appearance on the list: Oita Prefectural Art Museum in Japan, and architecture supremo Frank Gehry’s Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris were this year’s newcomers.
