Journalist and entrepreneur Max Galka holds a certain fasctination with the visualisation of data and how this technique allows us to understand the world. So he’s decided to create a collaborative platform, Blueshift, which allows everyone to create interactive maps.
During 2010, 30 million flights were taken, by 2.8 billion passengers. When each one is added to an interactive map, the result looks something like this. An entire year of air traffic, visible in action in this pretty mesmerizing interactive map! If you’re interested in how flight departures and arrivals looked from a certain airport, simply click on the city to focus on them.
Want to create your own interactive map, or check out more travel data? Head to the Blueshift website to have a go yourself!
