The ski season is almost upon us and all that’s left to do is decide where to head to hit the slopes. If you’re thinking of taking a skiing vacation this year, these are some of the best places to go.

Fresh from the news that the US is now the world’s top skiing destination we’ve rounded up some of the most awesome places to go skiing in North America. From family friendly ski resorts to terrain perfect for the most experienced of skiing fanatics, it’s all here.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

  • Season: November 24, 2016 – April 9, 2017

Located in Teton Village, Wyoming, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort boasts over 2,500 acres of skiing and riding for all levels from beginner to expert. Stay in the resort village of Teton Village for ease of access to the slopes and a lively apres ski scene. The season runs through April 9, 2017 so there’s plenty of time to enjoy the snow!

Snowbird, Utah

  • Season: November 2016 – May 2017

A year round resort, along with the neighboring Alta Ski Area, Snowbird is located up Little Cottonwood Canyon in Utah. With over 500 inches of snowfall per year, the two ski areas are the second snowiest in the US and offer great skiing conditions, with dry and powdery snow prevailing. In winter, visitors can choose the option of a joint pass for both areas, providing access to 26 ski lifts and 4,700 acres of skiable land.

Whistler, BC

  • Season: November 24, 2016 – late April, 2017

Combining the  Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, Canada’s most popular ski resort opens its slopes November 24 this year allowing visitors to experience over 8,100 acres of skiing including 16 alpine bowls, 3 glaciers and over 200 marked trails. There’s plenty of accommodation to choose from whilst the famous apres-ski scene will warm you up after a day on the snow. If you want a break from skiing, why not pick from the other activities on offer – including dog-sledding, snowcat tours or simply relaxing in Whistler Village.

Lake Tahoe, Assorted Resorts

  • Season: November 2016 – April 2017

From Heavenly Mountain Resort with its stunning views over Lake Tahoe and vast size (you can even ski in two states!); Kirkwood and its awesome location on top of the Sierra Crest combined with great snow conditions; to Mt. Rose with its proximity to the airport and 1,200 acres of slopes to explore, there’s something for everyone around Lake Tahoe. Simply pick your favorite resort and enjoy a skiing and snowboarding vacation in an amazing location! Did we already mention the views?!

Vail, Colorado

  • Season: November 18, 2016 – April 23, 2017

The third largest single mountain ski resort in the US has plenty to offer when it comes to winter sports! As well as skiing and snowboarding in one of the resorts’ three sections, there’s also a kids snowmobile track, ski bikes, tubing lanes and plenty more. Fun for all the family, the Bavarian style Vail Village was built after the resort itself so its perfectly equipped as the perfect base for a skiing vacation in Vail.
