The ultimate wanderlust movie, this 2010 movie sees Julia Roberts portray Liz Gilbert as she explores three countries in one year: Italy, India and Indonesia. Based on the biographical book of the same name, the relaxed pace, beautiful scenery and mouth-watering food portrayed in the film will make you want to drop it all and head off on a sabbatical across the world.

 

 

Under the Tuscan Sun 

Romance and travel combine in this charming movie set in Italy, which follows writer Frances Mayes (played by Diane Lane) as she buys a run down villa in Tuscany after her marriage collapses. The sunny landscapes and sense of enterprising adventure are enough to make anyone want to pack up home and move to Europe.

 

 

The Bucket List 

Carter and Edward are two men from different walks of life, who meet in hospital while undergoing treatment for lung cancer. They decide to embark on a bucket list adventure, ticking off all the things they’ve always wanted to do. So begins a round the world trip, featuring destinations from the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China to Mount Everest and the North Pole. Starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, it’s a reminder to enjoy life while you can and follow your dreams.

 

 

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty 

Walter Mitty, a photo developer at Life magazine, spends much of his life in a dream world in which he’s a hero living out some pretty great adventures. Until one day, the opportunity arises for him to make his dreams a reality when he sets out to recover a missing photo from explorer Sean O’Connelly. Destinations in the movie include the rugged natural scenery of Iceland and Greenland, as well as the Himalayas. 

 

 

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 

Funny, heart warming and beautifully filmed, India is the setting for this charming movie following the adventures of a group of retirees as they move into the Marigold Hotel. Promised a renovated paradise with everything needed for a luxurious retirement, the reality turns out to be slightly different. A story of love, friendship and discovery follows with stunning shots of India providing plenty of travel inspiration.

 

 

Wild 

Based on the real life story of Cheryl Strayed, who made the decision to walk the Pacific Crest Trail with no outdoor experience at all, this emotionally charged movie is notable for its outstanding lead performances and stunning shots of some of the most beautiful scenery in the U.S. Whether hiking is your thing or not, the cinematography and inspiration story are enough to inspire anyone to get outdoors and explore the beauty of North America. The Motorcycle Diaries 

This 2004 biopic follows the travels of Ernesto Guevara, a 23 year old Argentinian student who sets off on a journey across South American by motorbike with his friend Alberto Granada. Along the way, he witnesses poverty, persecution and societal division – all of which contribute to him later becoming the revolutionary Che Guevara, known today for his role in the Cuban Revolution.
