American Airlines is getting rid of in flight entertainment screens, claiming they are no longer needed as passengers bring their own devices on board.

Later this year, American Airlines will add 100 new planes to their fleet. However, these will come with a slight difference – there won’t be any entertainment screens in sight.

The move comes as American Airlines claims 90% of their passengers bring their own entertainment devices on board with them – making the seat back screens unnecessary.

Instead, American will aim to offer gate to gate WiFi on board the flights, as well as the option to use their smartphone, tablet or laptop to connect to the airline’s entertainment system through which they’ll be able to watch movies and tv shows.

What do you think of the new plans?
